Guilin Fubo Hill: General Introduction

Guilin Seven-star Park (Seven Stars Park): General Introduction

Seven-star Park is one in the first batch of the highest level of National Tour Attractions which officially recognized by China National Tourism Administration. Also, it is the biggest and most comprehensive parks in Guilin with an area of 134.7 hectares. With its long history and lots of attractions, such as Camel Hill, Natural Stone Hall, Seven-Star Caveand Crescent Pavilion and so on, it had been a seeing highlight since Sui and Tang Dynasties.

At the end of 2000, the park was assessed the first group of highest level of National Tourist Attraction by the State Tourism Bureau.

Guilin Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangbi Hill): General Introduction

As the emblem of Guilin City, it lies at the meeting point of the Peach Blossom and Li Rivers, with Zi Sandbank to the east across the Li. Elephant Trunk Hill (Xiangshan) is the badge of Guilin City, and was given its name because the hill looks exactly like an elephant drinking from the river with its trunk. It is a masterpiece of karst landscape, composed of pure limestone deposited on the sea floor 360 million years ago.

Guilin Reed Flute Cave: General Introduction

Situated at the foot of Guangming Hill in northeastern Guiln, Reed Flute Cave got its name from the kind of reed growing immediately outside the cave entrance, which is used to make fine flutes. It has been a tourist attraction for more than 1,000 years. Inside the cave, there are various stalagmites, stone curtains, stone flowers and stone pillars, which constitute a unique charm, making it known as a palace of natural art.

Li River used to be named as Gui Water, Gui River and East River in history. It passes through Guilin---the third largest city and the political, economic, transport, cultural and tourist center of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Because of the unique and beautiful natural scenery---Guilin Landscape gestated in this drainage area, Guilin is famous for its beautiful scenery, green mountains, clear water, spectacular caves and pretty rocks and has become a nice place of interest popular both at home and abroad. Li River belongs to the upriver reach of Gui River which is a part of the Pear River water system and originates from the south side of the 1732ms high Laoshan Peak, Yuecheng Mountain Range which is the common boundary of Xing’an and Ziyuan county. The climate there is mild subtropical. Li River has rich natural landscapes. As early as the South Song Dynasty, Guilin has long laid claim to having the most beautiful landscape under heaven. A lot of excellent poems and literary works in modern or ancient appreciated the beauty of this charming river lingered in the south China for its long history and civilization. "Beautiful landscape is mellow and sweet wine that makes visitors drunk, sip and drink it, there comes a poem in heart" is the praise given by numerous visitors. A poem says," The river is a green silk ribbon, and the hills look like jade hair-pins". The 83kms reach between Guilin and Yangshuo which is also called "Li River Highlight Tour" is full of nice sceneries such as deep pool, dangerous shoal and wonderful spring and fall. Among them, there are 97 boats were awarded "Civilization Route" "Youth civilization" by Guilin city, municipality, Ministry of Communications and the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee. The new established Mopanshan Dock which costs over 20 million yuan is a window of Guilin open to the world. It is 28 kilometers away from Guilin and gained its name for being close to the Mopanshan mountain. The dock covers 233350 square meters with sufficient supporting facilities. There are five waiting rooms including one for handicapped, three for common passengers and one for VIP. It adopts gardening design and is combined with the landscape.

In November of 1982, Li River was listed as the first" National Key Places of Interests" by the State Council, which required emphasized protection. In December of 1991, Li River ranked second on the list of "top 40 scenic spots in the country" which was publicized by Tourism Administration of China. In November of 1996, Li River was listed as one of 13 National Special Protected Rivers. In April of 1997, Guilin---Yangshuo course was awarded "Guangxi Waterage Civilization Route" by municipality. In December of 1998, Guilin---Yangshuo course was awarded "province department level Civilization Route" by Spiritual Civilization Construction Committee of Municipality; Mopanshan Dock was awarded the price of "province department level First Rate Civilization Dock", Zhujiang Dock was awarded the price of "province department level Third Rate Civilization Dock". Li River was evaluated as 4A state level sceneries in China by Tourism Administration of China. In January of 2001, Li River course which is called as" golden course" was evaluated as "province department level Civilization Route" by Chinese Communication Corporation Administration Association Tourist Waterage Board. In April of 2004, Li River Tourist Administration which was managed by Communication Administration of Guilin passed ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSASI8001 certificate successfully.

Halal Restaurants

Since there are not many Muslims living in Guilin, there are very few Halal restaurants available in Guilin. The easy way to find Halal food in Guilin is to look for Xinjiang Uyghur Restaurants and Lanzhou Beef Noodle Restaurants.

Mosques

Guilin Ancient Mosque is located in the city proper area where local Guilin Muslim perform salat prayers. The Seven Star Mosque is located in the picturesque Seven Star Park.

Money Exchange

You can exchange traveler's checks or cash at most banks, and most 5-star and 4-star hotels always have a money exchange counter. You can also get a cash advance on your credit card on ATM machine. The exchange rate all over China are the same fixed by Bank of China. To change money, you have to have your passport at hand. If you want to change money in a hotel, you usually have to be a guest there. Sometimes if you are not a guest in a hotel but need to change money there, you can just say a random room number, but this doesn't always work. Remember to keep the exchange slip well because you need this slip to change the Chinese Yuan back to your currency if you do have this need at the end of the tour. At present, the RMB is not exchangeable on the International market, so it is only usable within the country. So when you are changing money, don't change too much, because it is difficult to change back into other currencies. To change RMB back into your home currency, you must retain the exchange slips that are given to you at the bank or money exchange counter.
