Shenzhen is one of the newest cities in the world with a very short history of only over 30 years. Since it is a new city, there are people migrating to Shenzhen from all over China including lots of Muslims. There is only one mosque in Shenzhen. Local people call it Shangmeilin Mosque. The Shenzhen Muslim Hotel offers Halal restaurants as well as prayer halls. IslamiChina has summarized the following Shenzhen Muslim travel tips to our Muslim brothers and sisters to travel Shenzhen during a short period of time.

Tour Itinerary Planning

For Muslim Business Travelers

Shenzhen is a very new city without any historical places to visit. The places of interests in Shenzhen are all recently constructed, such as Window of the World and Splendid China. You may arrange a day trip to Spendid China and Window of the World in the day time and after tour is over, you may perform Salat prayer at Shangmeilin Mosque with local Muslim brothers and sisters.

For Muslim leisure travelers

3 Days and 2 Nights Shenzhen Muslim Tour is the best choice for Muslim leisure travelers because this tour itinerary allows you to have enough time to know both Shenzhen’s culture heritages as well as Muslim heritages. You are not in a hurry to get around Shenzhen from one place to another. Please check IslamiChina’s Shenzhen Muslim Tour 3 Days for details.

Accommodations

Shenzhen Muslim Hotel was built for Muslim business travelers as well as leisure travelers. It offers a few Muslim restaurants and a prayer hall. Shenzhen Muslim Hotel is a 5-minute walk from Huang Bei Ling MRT Station and a 10-minute drive from Luohu Railway Station. Air-conditioned guest rooms are fitted with a work desk, a minibar and cable television. The en suite bathroom comes with toiletries and shower facilities

Halal Restaurants in Shenzhen

As a booming economic center of China and adjacent to Hong Kong, Shenzhen is city with many Chinese and international Muslim business travelers. Halal restaurants can be easily found in Shenzhen including Arabian cuisine, Southeast Asian Cuisine, Turkish Cuisine, local Guangzhou Halal cuisine and Xinjiang Uyhur Cuisine. The easy way is to dine at Shenzhen Muslim Hotel.

Mosques in Shenzhen

With many Muslims migrated to Shenzhen since the city was established as a Special Economic Zone in China in 1979, there has been a strong demand for a Mosque to be built in Shenzhen for Muslims to perform Salat. Therefore Shenzhen Mosque was constructed in a place named Shangmeilin. Local people also call it Shenzhen Shangmeilin Mosque.

Money Exchange

You can exchange traveler's checks or cash at most banks, and most 5-star and 4-star hotels always have a money exchange counter. You can also get a cash advance on your credit card on ATM machine. The exchange rate all over China are the same fixed by Bank of China. To change money, you have to have your passport at hand. If you want to change money in a hotel, you usually have to be a guest there. Sometimes if you are not a guest in a hotel but need to change money there, you can just say a random room number, but this doesn't always work. Remember to keep the exchange slip well because you need this slip to change the Chinese Yuan back to your currency if you do have this need at the end of the tour. At present, the RMB is not exchangeable on the International market, so it is only usable within the country. So when you are changing money, don't change too much, because it is difficult to change back into other currencies. To change RMB back into your home currency, you must retain the exchange slips that are given to you at the bank or money exchange counter.

The name of Shenzhen first appeared in 1410 during the Ming Dynasty. Local people called the drains in paddy fields "zhen" or "chong". The name "Shenzhen" means "deep drains", because this is an area crisscrossed with rivers and streams, and there are deep drains in the paddy fields. Shenzhen became a township at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.

Shenzhen is one of the most populous cities in China. It is situated in Guangdong Province adjacent to Hong Kong. It is approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of China's third-largest city, Guangzhou. The city is on the list of UNESCO Creative Cities.
Downtown

In 1979, Shenzhen — then a group of farming and fishing communities along the Hong Kong border with a total population of a few hundred thousand — was designated the first of China's Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The plan was to create a sealed off enclave to experiment with market reforms and performance incentives without posing a threat or risk to the established political and economic system elsewhere in China. Shenzhen won the honor because of its proximity to the abundant capital resources and management expertise across the border in Hong Kong. Since then, it has been a real boom town and today is a bustling city of 14 million.

The Tian Hou Temple is an ancient attraction situated in western Shenzhen’s Chiwan Village. This temple is dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea and was built for the fisherman to receive blessing. It was originally built in 1410, but has been destroyed and rebuilt several times since. The temple grounds overlook a shipyard and feature two museums for exploration. The streets of the park are lined with lampposts representing popular characters from Chinese literature.

Dedicated to the "Three Saints" of Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism, this temple is believed to be one of the newest in Shenzhen. The figures within the temple represent the two keys to success: scholarly achievement and military might, particularly popular in Cantonese-speaking areas. Two other popular figures, the Goddess of Mercy and the God of Wealth are also featured in this temple. Located within Meilin Park, the temple is easy to spot atop a hill near the Meilin Reservoir.

Add: Guli Area, Meilin Park, Meilin Road, Futian District, Shenzhen

Phoenix Mountain Temple and Dragon King Temple
If you venture into Shenzhen’s northwestern part, you’ll find two small Buddhist temples. The first is a small but popular Phoenix Mountain Temple, constructed by a general during the Southern Song Dynasty and overlooking a pond. The second, located further up the mountain, is the Dragon King Temple named after the well-known character from Chinese folk tales. Both of these temples boast a large number of tourists and worshippers alike. Apart from being notable religious landmarks, they are architectural wonders filled with elaborate details that anyone will enjoy.
