Day 2 Beijing, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven

Explore the world’s largest public square, Tiananmen Square in the morning. No visit to Beijing would be complete without a walk through the square, whose historical legacy includes Chairman Mao’s announcement of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949. Then walk from Tiananmen Square to the Forbidden City. Home to 24 Ming & Qing Dynasty emperors, the Forbidden City is the world’s largest palace complex located in the center of Beijing. Continue visiting to the Temple of Heaven where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would worship the god of heaven and pray for good harvest. The Temple of Heaven remains one of the most important examples of Chinese religious architecture.

Day 3 Beijing, Great Wall, Sacred Way of Ming Tombs, Photo Stop at Olympic Venues

Visit the Great Wall of China in the morning. The Great Wall was continuously built from the 3rd century BC to the 17th century AD on the northern border of China as the great military defense project of successive Chinese Empires. Today, the wall is still impressive at 3,750 miles in length. The Great Wall embodies unparalleled significance as the national symbol for safeguarding the security of the country and Chinese people. Visit the Sacred Way of the Ming Tombs in the afternoon. The Sacred Way is a stone paved path which stretches as long as one kilometer to the north of the main gate of the Ming Tombs. Next, make a photo stop at the 2008 Olympic Venues of Bird Nest (National Stadium) and Water Cube (National Aquatics Center).

Day 4 Beijing, Summer Palace, Bullet Train to Xian

Visit Summer Palace in morning. Commissioned by Emperor Qianlong in 1750, Summer Palace is the largest and best preserved royal garden in China. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value. Summer Palace offers a glimpse at how the imperial family once spent their leisure time. Take the second class bullet train to Xian (about 5 hours) in the afternoon. Xian is the ancient capital city of China and the starting point of Silk Road.

Day 5 Xian, Terracotta Warriors, Great Mosque, Muslim Quarter

Morning visit to Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Considered one of the foremost archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, the 2,000-year-old Terracotta Army was discovered by accident in 1974 by local farmers digging a well. The 8,000-plus life-sized figures are arranged in vaults at the entrance to guard the tomb of Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China. Visit Xian's Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque in the afternoon. The Muslim Quarter covers several blocks with an estimated 60,000 Muslims in the region. There are about seven ancient mosques in the area, among which the Great Mosque is most famous and popular among all. At Xian's Muslim Quarter you will find a seemingly endless labyrinth of street food, restaurants and bustling local life.

Day 6 Xian, Little Wild Goose Pagoda, Xian Museum, City Wall, Bullet Train to Chengdu

Visit Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Xian Museum in the morning. With a history of more than 1,300 years, Small Wild Goose Pagoda was built to store the Buddhist scriptures delivered from ancient India. It is a perfect example of the multi-eaved square brick pagodas built in ancient China. Currently there are 13 storeys left as the top two storeys were destroyed in earthquakes. Next, visit Xian Museum. Xian Museum boasts nearly 130,000 relics that all relate to the history of Ancient China and Xian specifically. Afterwards visit Xian City Wall. The City Wall of Xian is one of the oldest and best-preserved city walls in the world. Walking atop the Wall, you will get the panorama of Xian skyline. Take second class bullet train to Chengdu (3 hours) in the afternoon. Chengdu is known for being the home of China's most famous creatures, the cute giant pandas.

Day 7 Chengdu, One Day Panda Keeper Program at Dujiangyan Panda Base

Drive out of Chengdu to Dujiangyan Panda Base (90 minutes). This Base is now the most popular panda base in China offering the Panda Keeper Program. After registration at the panda base, a professional English speaking keeper will guide you during this one day panda keeper volunteer program which includes cleaning the enclosure, weighing and cleaning bamboo, making panda cakes, feeding the pandas and watching a panda movie. A simple Chinese lunch is included and served at the staff's canteen of Dujiangyan Panda Base. At the end of the program you will get Panda Volunteer Certificate granted by the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation.

Day 8 Chengdu, Panda Sculpture, Wuhou Temple, Jinli Street, Fly to Guilin

Visit Panda Sculpture named "I am Here" in the morning. Created as a charity project to raise awareness about the dwindling population of pandas by internationally renowned artist Lawrence Argent, the gigantic panda sculpture is named as "I am Here" which weighs 13 tons with a height of 15 meters. Mr. Argent has captured public imagination in the United States with his mega public art installations "I See What You Mean" and "Leap". Vist Wuhou Temple in the afternoon. Wuhou Temple is an ancestral temple in memory of Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and other heroes in the state of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period when Chengdu was the capital of the state of Shu. Afterwards, walk along the Jinli Ancient Street. Roaming on the 550 meters long Jinli Ancient Street that is said to have been bustling since Qin Dynasty, you can admire the charming old buildings and find diverse shops selling interesting ancient handicrafts. Fly to Guilin late in the afternoon or at night. Guilin is world famous for its serene landscapes and mysterious limestone formations which make Guilin one of the most photographed city in China.

Day 9 Guilin, Li River Cruise, Yangshuo West Street, Two Rivers & Four Lakes

Cruise Li River in the morning. This 83-kilometer-long waterway cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is like traveling along a traditional Chinese painting. The landscape is decorated with startling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves and farming villages, and is lined with bamboo. In a Chinese poem it is written: "The River is a green silk ribbon, and the hills are jade hairpins". Walk along the famous West Street upon arrival in Yangshuo. Back to Guilin in the afternoon, stroll along the Two Rivers & Four Lakes Scenic Area. As the city card of Guilin, these lakes and rivers are linked up and formed Guilin's central round-the-city water system and constitute a ring belt of rare natural beauty at the heart of Guilin.

Day 10 Guilin, Elephant Trunk Hill, Reed Flute Cave, Fly to Shanghai

Morning visit to the Elephant Trunk Hill. This hill is the symbol of Guilin and gets its name because it looks like a huge elephant that dig its trunk into the river. Continue visiting Reed Flute Cave. The Reed Flute Cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside it, with which people make flutes. Inside this water-eroded cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations formed by carbonate deposition. Illuminated by colored lighting, the fantastic spectacle is found in many variations along this 240-meter-long cave. Fly to the glass and steel towers of cosmopolitan Shanghai in the afternoon or at night.

Day 11 Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden, The Bund & Nanjing Road, People's Square, Shanghai Museum

Visit Yuyuan Garden in the morning. This garden is a maze of Ming Dynasty pavilions, elaborate rockeries, arched bridges, and goldfish ponds, all encircled by an undulating dragon wall. Then shopping at the Chenghuangmiao market located outside the garden. Stroll along the Bund and nearby Nanjing Road in the afternoon. The Bund refers to Shanghai's famous waterfront stretching for 1.6km along the west shore of the Huangpu River. Nanjing Road is the main shopping street of Shanghai and one of the busiest shopping streets in the world. Afterwards, visit the People's Square and Shanghai Museum. The People’s Square was once the finest racecourse in Asia before 1949; it is now a large open space where locals hang out all day, every day, practicing Tai Chi and flying kites. Shanghai Museum is specially celebrated in the world for its rich and high-quality collection of 120,000 precious works of art including ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy.

Notice on Panda Keeper Program

• Panda Keeper Program has an age restriction from between 5 years to 80 years. Children under five years who are accompanied by an adult can take the standard panda tour in panda base, but due to restrictions they are not able to be a panda volunteer.

• A maximum of 30 keepers are allowed each day, it is advisable that you book the program the earlier the better.

• Panda keepers are strongly advised to be guided by their supervisors and should approach the animals with extreme caution and only under supervision. Though pandas look gentle, they are animals and their behavior can be unpredictable.

• Dujiangyan Panda Base allows a limited amount of people per day to take a photo next to a panda for an extra fee. If you are interested in it, please contact us for the extra charge and ask for the reservation in advance.

Get Your Visa before Entering China

Nearly every visitor to China will need a tourist 'L' visa before arriving. We cannot obtain your visa, but we will provide you with an official Visa Invitation Letter for your visa application after deposit payment is completed. You need to download Application Forms from the official website of China embassy of your country. On the application, you will need to provide your travel dates, travel itinerary, and proof of onward travel. The application must be typed with no hand written corrections or it will not be accepted. Please bring the Visa Application Forms together with our Visa Invitation Letter to the Chinese embassy or consulate to apply for China visa. We recommend getting your visa at least two months before trip departure to avoid logistical problems. For individual travelers, single-entry visas are valid for entry within three months. For business people and other regular visitors there are multiple-entry visas good for six months at a time. Each visa is valid for a stay of 30 or 60 days, and can be extended while in China. Please note that if you plan to leave China to visit or do business in another nearby country and then go back to China before returning to your country of origin, you need to apply for Double Entry Visa. If you leave China to visit Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and then go back to China, you need a Double Entry Visa.

Arrival in Beijing

This tour starts in Beijing. Beijing has two international airports, Beijing Capital Airport (PEK) and Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). Beijing Capital Airport is 29 km (15 miles) to the city center while Beijing Daxing Airport is 46 km (29 miles) to the center of Beijing. Upon your arrival at Beijing airport, GCT tour guide will hold GrandChinaTravel welcome sign with your name and wait at the airport arrival hall.

Departure from Shanghai

This tour ends in Shanghai. There are two international airports in Shanghai, Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) and Shanghai Pudong (PVG). Pudong mainly serves international flights, while Hongqiao mainly serves domestic and regional flights in East Asia. Hongqiao Airport is closer to the city center (13km / 8 miles) than Pudong (30 km / 19 miles). You will be transferred to your airline terminal building of Shanghai airport on the last day. For your information, Pudong Airport is connected to the magnetic levitation line (Maglev), currently the fastest commercial train in the world. From Longyang Road Metro Station to Pudong airport, the 30-kilometer trip will take only eight minutes. Max speed of Maglev Train can be 430km/h. Please contact us if you want to try Maglev train for your departure in Shanghai.

Deposit Payment

A deposit of $200 USD per person is required to secure your reservation. Once your deposit has been received, we will send your confirmation letter, materials for your visa application, packing list, and general information to prepare for your trip to China. We will send you Visa Invitation Letter once we receive deposit payment if you need Visa Invitation Letter.

Full Payment

Full payment should be made 30 days prior to departure. Once full payment has been made, hotels, tour guides, domestic flights/trains and land transportation will be confirmed.

Cancellation

Cancellations made 31 days or more prior to the scheduled departure date, will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 22 - 30 days will incur a 10% fee. Cancellations made within 15 - 21 days will incur a 30% fee. Cancellations made within 8 - 14 days will incur a 50% fee. Cancellations made within 0 - 7 days will not receive a refund. After the tour has commenced, there is no refund for canceled services due to non-participation, early departure, late arrival, or missed days on tours. Due to time zone differences, the confirmed cancellation date is determined based Beijing time. Please allow 2-5 business days to process and confirm your cancellation request. Once the cancellation is confirmed, you will receive your refund within 14 working days.
