    Tour Introduction
There are four most holy mountains in Tibet, Mt. Kailash, Amnye Machen, Gongga and Meili. The Sacred Mt. Amnye Machen is the home of the sacred protector of the Gologs, Machen Pomra. Located in Golok prefecture in Amdo, it rises to 6282m / 20,605 feet. Before the right height was figured out in 1960's, Amnye Machen was mistakenly regarded as the highest mountain in the world. These 8 days of Kora (Sacred Circuit) could be one of the most difficult trekking in the world because of the high elevation. Most part of the trekking is above 4600 meters or 15,090 feet above sea level. The night temperature could be as low as -30C even in August. GCT will arrange necessary equipment such as camping tents as well as Yaks and Horses during the trekking. Please be prepared for this extreme experience

It has long been on the fringes of the western Chinese empire, probably established around the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD), and it remained an important trading post in the area, mainly for goods to and from Tibet and China. Visit the Kumbum Monastery upon arrival. The Kumbum Monastery which was built in1560 AD is one of the six most famous Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries. Kumbum in Tibetan means a grand place housing 100,000 Buddha. It was originally built upon the birth place of the founder of the Gelukpa Sect (Yellow Hat) of Tibetan Buddhism, Tsong Khapa. Two of his disciples from this region also went on to become famous in the Buddhist world, one becoming Dalai Lama, the other the Panchen Lama, both great living Buddha.

Qinghai Lake is the largest lake in China which is classified as a saline and alkaline lake. Both Tibetans and Mongolians regard this lake a holy lake and the lake is also the sea offering site for Penchen Lama which can be seen at the south shore of the lake.
