Getting Around In Xining

The Xining airport is level-4D in the civil aviation airport, and it is also one of the most important transportation hinges of Qinghai-Tibet plateau. The airport has been open to 11 cities, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, X’an, Chengdu, Lhasa, Ge’ermu, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Urumqi and Hangzhou. The railway of the city is extended to all directions. Lanzhou-Qinghai railway and Qinghai-Tibet Railway traverse the province, and run through Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Golmud. There are more than 10 roads in Qinghai Province, such as Gansu-Qinghai, Qinghai-Tibet, Xining-Zhangye, Xining-Linxia and Xining-Guoluo. Now, the highway network covers the whole region, with Xining as the center and 315 and 109 national highways as the backbone linking the region.
 
Getting to Xining by Air
Xining Caojibao Airport is the only arterial airport in Qinghai province, and also the major air transportation pivot in Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. It is about 30km away from downtown Xining. At present, the airport only offers domestic routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Taiyuan, Lanzhou, Chengdu, Lhasa and other large or middle cities in China.
 
Getting to Xining by Train
Xining is located on the joint place of the Loess Plateau and Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. It has been an important gateway to Tibetan since Tang Dynasty. The establishment of Xining Railway Station enhances the connection between Qinghai Province and Tibetan. Xining Railway Station owns two trunk and three feeder railways which radiate out in all directions.
 
Getting around Xining by City Bus
The public road system in Xining is comprised of the ordinary bus lines and mini bus lines. The tens of bus lines successfully connect the city proper with the suburb area of Xining. Usually, the ticket fare is 1 yuan for most bus lines. The Xinning Road Bus Station has regular lines to Kumbum Monastery, own of the most popular tourist destinations in Xining.
