  • Tour Introduction
Great Wall of China is regarded as the seventh wonder in the world. The construction of the Great Wall started somewhat 2000 years ago during China’s Warring States period. When China’s Emperor, Qin Shihuang, the first emperor of China, unified China in 221BC, he ordered to connect the previous walls built by the state of Yan, Zhao and Qin and the Great Wall of China came into being. Later on there were over 20 Chinese dynasties kept building the Great Wall till the end of Ming Dynasty which was overthrown by Qing Dynasty in 1644AD. The total length of Great Wall might be over 90,000 KM. The Great Wall mostly left now is from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) which starts from Shanhaiguan where the Great Wall meets the sea and ends at Jiayuguan located in the Gebi Desert in West China. GCT 7 days of Great Wall Hiking Tour will take us to see the wild part of Great Wall (sections which have not been renovated) at Huanghuacheng, Jinshanling and Simatai. You will also be able to see the renovated part of Juyongguan.

We will depart hotel by bus to Jinshanling in the morning. The Jinshanling Great Wall was initially built from 1368 to 1389 in the Ming Dynasty, and in 1567 or 1570 rebuilding of the Wall was mainly directed by General Qi Jiguang. The Wall is about 21 to 24 feet high and 15 to 18 feet wide, which is made of brick and stone. The Jinshanling Great Wall has an elevation of 2100 feet. This part of your trek is one of the most beautiful sections of the Great Wall, and takes us to the Great Wall at Simatai. The hiking is around 5 miles, covering 32 watchtowers over old brick-made steps, there are sections of renovated and original wall with fantastic viewpoints. Today's hiking enables us to encounter as many as 150 watchtowers, battlements, terraces and turrets of the wall.
Day 3: Walking the Great Wall from Jinshanling to Gubeikou
Meals Included: Breakfast at hotel, lunch box & dinner at local restaurant

After breakfast at hotel we will start to climb the Great Wall at Jinshanling and walk towards Gubeikou. The hiking from Jinshanling to Gubeikou is about 10km and it takes us about 6 hours on the way, if the weather is good we may be able to see Miyun Reservoir and the Wangjing Tower in Simatai Section in the distance. There is a military area where hiking on the wall is prohibited, we will have to walk into a nearby village and come back onto the Wall after the military area.
Day 4: Walking the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng
Meals Included: Breakfast at hotel, lunch box & dinner at local restaurant

We will have a full day trekking along the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng (Yellow Flower Fortress). This part of the Great Wall is probably one of the most difficult sections for hikers. It is completely unreconstructed and runs over a little reservoir. The view as you climb to the top is stunning.  Here the Wall is particularly precipitous so you should expect lots of steps and difficult climbing at some points.
Day 5: Walking the Great Wall at Juyongguan
Meals Included: Breakfast at hotel, lunch box & dinner at local restaurant

We will have a half day trekking along the Juyongguan Great Wall. Juyongguan is site of an ancient military town which is replete with military installations, watch towers, official residences, temples, a Confucian school and other structures. The present Pass was initially built in the Ming Dynasty and received much renovation later. It is a very important strategic place connecting the inner land and the area near the northern border of China. The Juyongguan Pass has been known for its strategic importance for more than 2,000 years. Drive back to Beijing in the afternoon.

Optional Tour: Chinese Kungfu show with Chinese dinner

We will start our Beijing city tour from the largest square in the world, the Tian'anmen Square where you can feel the heartbeat of China. Bordered by the Great Hall of the People, Mao’s Mausoleum and the National Museum of China, Tiananmen Square has witnessed many of the historical events happened inChina since 1911. We then walk to the Forbidden City, the complex of imperial palace, which were home to the Emperors for over 500 years. Grand halls and courts gradually give way to more intimate domestic quarters, giving an insight into the pampered isolation of the emperors. After lunch we will visit the Summer Palace, the largest imperial garden in China. The Summer Palace was first built in the Qing emperor Qianlong's time in 1751 and burned down in 1860 by the French and British army and restored by the Dowager empress Cixi for her own enjoyment. It became a favorite haunt of Cixi, who preferred it to the Forbidden City, and named it Yiheyuan meaning the garden of health and harmony.
